According to the latest article in the Washington Post, 1 in 500 Americans have died from Covid-19. This stat is only expected to worsen with the rise of Covid-19 Delta.

The study cited shows that people older than 85 make up only 2 percent of the population, but a quarter of the total death toll attributed to Covid-19. One in 35 people 85 or older died of covid, compared with 1 in 780 people age 40 to 64.

While covid’s death toll hard to even comprehend, the more mind blowing stat is that of the deadly efficiency with which Covid-19 has targeted Black, Latino, and American Indian and Alaska Native people in their 30s, 40s and 50s.

While 1 in 500 Americans have died from Covid-19, death rates for younger groups, 40 to 64 years old, are much lower, but racial are substantially larger. Death rates for younger groups, 40 to 64 years old, are much lower, but racial inequities grow larger.
