Another Vaccinated Member of Congress Tests Positive for COVID-19

On Thursday, August 9, 2021, Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C. tested positive for COVID-19 while being fully vaccinated. With the cases of the delta variant rising, more and more vaccinated people are contracting the dominant strain of the COVID-19 virus. These breakthrough cases have been especially prevalent in Washington D.C. and caused speculation about the efficacy of the vaccines. Another notable case was Sen. Lindsay Graham who tested positive this past week as well. According to Rebecca Shabad of NBC News, “’No vaccines are 100 percent effective at preventing illness in vaccinated people,’ the CDC says. ‘There will be a small percentage of fully vaccinated people who still get sick, are hospitalized, or die from COVID-19.’” Read more about these recent events in the NBC article here.
