The Delta variant has continued to rise in cases across the United States. Particularly in Colorado, where there have been many large country music festivals throughout the state. Rae Ellen Bichell of KHN states that “Mesa County has the most delta variant cases of any county in Colorado, state health officials report, making the area a hot spot within a hot spot. A CDC team and the state’s epidemiologist traveled to Grand Junction to investigate how and why cases of the variant were moving so quickly in Mesa County.” Officials in Colorado have considered banning alcohol at the County Jam or even trying to get attendees a dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine prior to the festival. If the Delta variant is as transmissible as reported by health officials, having large gatherings at music festivals can be very concerning. Read more about the KHN article here
