The recent decision by the World Health Organization to encourage the fully vaccinated to wear masks again due to the highly infectious and transmissible Delta variant has sparked large amount of reporting from a variety of news outlets. Some doctors, such as University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix’s Dr. Shad Marvasti suggests this as “a good idea”. Seana Smith outlines in an AOL article the potential dangers of the COVID-19 delta variant. Health officials are worried that the vaccines available today are not as effective against the delta variant compared to others. Smith also writes that “The Delta variant, which was first identified in India, has now spread to more than 80 countries. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) officials warn it will likely become the dominant strain in the U.S. in a matter of weeks as infections attributable to the highly contagious variant spread rapidly nationwide.”.
