Hawaii to Reimpose COVID-19 Restrictions with Recent Rise in Delta Variant Cases

Hawaii is now reimposing COVID-19 restrictions to limit social gatherings in order to avoid straining their healthcare system. Governor David Ige stated in a tweet “I’ll be signing an executive order that will limit social gatherings, effective immediately,” Reuters writes an article stating that Hawaii is “more than 60% of population fully vaccinated”. However they also mention that the state of Hawaii “has witnessed a rise in cases by 168% between July 26 and August 8, according to the state’s department of health.” Hawaii had testing protocols in place for travelers throughout most of the pandemic until just last month. They are hoping that by re instating these measures, it will reduce the impact of the healthcare system and ultimately avoid an over strained ICU in hospitals.
